Prologue

In each University, curricular inputs are important. Relevant information on courses and combinations on the offer with freedom of choice is generally available and counseling is informally given as a support of service. The conventional information system comprises a copy of prospectus that contains a listing of courses and combinations, entry rules, fee structure, examination schedule etc. in a routine repetitive manner year after year. But now with the change in scenario not only the academic content and its rules have become oriented towards their market need but have also to address social disparities and career opportunities that education has to offer. This is now to be supplemented with active guidance and information technology that is fast replacing the print media with a system that can quickly retrieve information details for the benefit of all concerned. Now it is important to institutionalize this support to enhance the reach and scope of available opportunities for the students and prepare them for the future challenges.

Vocational guidance and campus based interviews have become a common practice. These could be taken care of through the active liaison of the Career and Counseling Cell with the recruiting agencies and HR personnel of reputed firms. The active participation of institutional experts from these could give greater on site experience in search of suitable candidates. In this exercise, the institutions for positive help could also involve their Alumni. They could also undertake an affordable training programme to acquaint the students with the high demand market areas and invoke industry institution linkages.

In this regard, Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha issued a letter (No. 1324/HE-FE-1B-POL-0112/2015/H.E. dated 12-01-2018) to North Orissa University to setup a Career & Counseling Cell. Initial Grant and recurring grant to meet the expenses were sanctioned by the Dept. of Higher Education. With that the Career & Counseling Cell at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University was setup. A Coordinator was appointed to run the Cell for planning and executing under the active guidance of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. At the end of each month, the Coordinator in-charge of the Cell shall submit online action taken progress report to the Higher Education Department and at the end of each academic year, an Annual Appraisal Report duly signed by the Registrar shall be submitted to the Higher Education Department giving a consolidated statement of the data, the progress achieved and the problems faced, if any, by the Cell.
